There is a lot of physics in bridge construction. The weight of the bridge and anything that it carries needs to be supported somehow. At the the same time if you build too massive it just gets expensive.
The trick is to build strong without wasting any materials. People go to college for years to study this kind of thing but some of us can just 'see' how the weight in a bridge is being carried by each of the girders and beams.
